Safety Village - Bike Safety

What We Will Be Doing:

Bicycle and Bicycle Helmet Safety
Bicycle safety
Brownies learn from a uniformed Police Officer how to properly fit their bicycle helmets and how to safely ride their bicycles through the Safety Village using operational traffic lights, a railway crossing and bicycle lanes. All bicycles are provided for the Brownies (some with training wheels) but they must bring a bicycle helmet with them to the village. Brownies should wear clothing suitable for being inside (approximately 30 minutes) and outside (approximately 35 minutes). There are a limited number of helmets available for Brownies who do not bring one. Based on Risk Watch Curriculum.

Year End Party at Earthbound Kids

Date:        Saturday July 5, 2014
Where:     Earthbound Kids in Stouffville
When:      9:00am to 4:00pm
Cost:        $75 per Brownie, we will subsidize as much as possible with our cookie sales
Deposit:    $20 deposit due March 17, 2014

Event Details:

Earthbound Kids connects children to nature and fun in the safe and scenic setting of the Earthbound Kids tree farm.  Insipring their passion for the planet through adventure packed summer camps, active outdoor birthday parties and rich school programs.

The Brownies will have the opportunity to go horseback riding, ziplining, participate in gardening activities, free play and hopefully some time for crafts as well!  This is an incredible opportunity for the Brownies to experience this fantastic camp and outdoor activities.  We are very excited to be able to offer this camp to the Brownies!

Lunch and snacks will be provided, but please bring a reusable water bottle.

Whole Foods Visit

Details:   The Brownies will be given a tour of Whole Foods and will learn about healthy foods and food choices.  We will be covering items for their Key to My Community interest badge, as well as participating in healthy food related activities!

Volunteer:  We are looking for one more volunteer to help this night.

Bring:      Please bring a stuffed animal.   Dr. Cliff will be bandaging and showing
                 how to do a physical exam etc on the stuffed animals. He is licensed for
                 all animals even teddy bears. ;)

Brownies will enjoy interactive exhibition tours and hands-on workshops in the studio while using traditional and non-traditional materials to create works of art, inspired by some of the most renowned artists in Canada.

Family Holiday Skating Party

                 $2.00 per adult if paid by Monday December 9th, or regular rate at the door Dec 16th
Due:         Money is due Monday December 9, 2013 - thank you!

Event:  The Brownies and their families are invited to join us for a holiday skating party at Centennial Community Centre Arena.  Since this is not a unit event, we do require one adult to be on the ice with each Brownie.

Required:  All Brownies are required to wear a CSA approved helmet when on the ice.

Shadow Lake Camping

Event:

Calling all Brownies, join us for our sixth annual community fall camp at Shadow Lake!

There will be outdoor events, singing, dancing, crafts and a campfire to enjoy.  We will provide a round robin of activities based on the new Operation Earth Action - Supporting Animal Habitats challenge.  The cost includes all activities, food and a crest.

Our traditional Halloween party will be on Saturday evening.  No costumes are allowed, but Brownies are encouraged to bring an orange t-shirt.  (Please note that we will be bleaching t-shirts as a craft in October so the Brownies can bring these t-shirts to Shadow Lake for the party Saturday night).

KIT LIST – WEEKEND PACKAGE (see below for day camp kit list)

o    2 pairs of pants
o    2 T-shirts
o    2 warm sweaters
o    4 pairs of socks
o    3 pairs of underwear
o    1 Camp hat
o    1 pair of running shoes for use in the recreation hall
o    Outdoor shoes or boots for outdoor games / hiking etc
o    1 rain jacket (plus rain pants if possible) and / or warm jacket, toque and gloves – please check the weather forecast!!!
We will be doing outdoor activities whatever the weather!
o    Please bring something black or orange to wear on Saturday evening (NO COSTUMES PLEASE)
(Our unit will be bleaching orange t-shirts at our October 21st meeting to wear to Shadow Lake!!)
 Sleeping bag – with an extra blanket if needed
